| Plan 2 | Step-Up SIP | INR 10,000/mo | INR 19,12,491 | INR 13,56,408 | 1.71× | 12.00% | Off | INR 32,68,898Ending value after tax | INR 18,25,336In today's money | Joint highest annualized return |
Important: Highlighted results are neutral comparison labels, not recommendations. Grow wealth ranks by estimated annualized return before tax, not raw ending value. This is a calculation based on your assumptions, not a forecast, guarantee, or recommendation. Income mode compares how long withdrawals last and the remaining corpus. Tax figures use the separate rate entered for each plan and are not country-specific tax calculations.
Projected value over time
Projected value uses each plan's own assumptions. For SWP, the line shows remaining corpus after withdrawals. The optional uncertainty band is a simple scenario range, not a confidence interval.
Formulas and worked example
SIP future value: monthly contribution × [((1 + monthly rate)^months − 1) / monthly rate] × (1 + monthly rate). The entered annual return is treated as an effective annual rate and converted to a monthly rate.
Step-Up SIP: each year's monthly contribution increases by the entered step-up rate, then the contribution is added at the beginning of each month before that month's growth.
Lump Sum: principal × (1 + annual rate)^years. FD growth mode: principal × (1 + annual rate ÷ compounding frequency)^(frequency × years), using the selected compounding frequency. FD income mode: estimated annual interest is starting principal × annual rate; it is treated as paid out rather than reinvested, so the starting principal remains unchanged.
SWP: each month the corpus grows by the monthly return, then the scheduled withdrawal is deducted; the withdrawal can increase annually.
Inflation adjustment: ending value ÷ (1 + inflation)^years.
Worked example: a INR 10,000 monthly SIP at a 12% effective annual rate for 10 years gives about INR 22,40,000 from INR 12,00,000 contributed under the calculator's monthly-compounding assumption.
When does each strategy suit whom?
SIP: useful for people making regular monthly contributions. Step-Up SIP: useful when contributions may rise with income. Lump Sum: models a one-time investment. FD: models a fixed-rate deposit. SWP: models scheduled withdrawals from an existing corpus.
None of these descriptions promise a return or determine suitability. Actual products, taxes, fees, liquidity and risk can differ from the assumptions used here.
Investment Comparison FAQs
How is the highest annualized return selected?
In Grow wealth mode, accumulation plans are ranked by an estimated annualized return: periodic annualized return for SIP and Step-Up SIP, or CAGR for Lump Sum and FD. Raw ending value is not used for ranking. If plans have the same assumed return and fee rates, their estimated annualized returns may tie even when ending values differ, because contribution amounts and timing affect how much is invested and for how long.
Can I compare SIP and SWP?
Yes, but they are evaluated in different modes. Grow wealth compares SIP, Step-Up SIP, Lump Sum and FD. Generate income compares SWP and FD using income duration and remaining corpus rather than treating withdrawals as an investment return.
What does Match total investment do?
It scales each eligible growth plan proportionally to the highest total contribution among the growth plans currently shown. The original inputs stay visible; the comparison results use matched contributions.
Is the tax estimate exact?
No. It is a simplified estimate using a separate flat rate for each plan. FD interest and modeled investment gains are estimated from the projection; actual tax can depend on country, asset type, holding period, allowances, losses and your circumstances. This tool does not model country-specific tax rules.
Are the return assumptions guaranteed?
No. The return field is an assumption for the projection. FD rates depend on the product, while equity-fund returns can vary materially and are not guaranteed.
What is CAGR?
CAGR is the annualized growth rate for a one-time investment. It is useful for Lump Sum and FD because the initial investment occurs at the start of the period.
What is the difference between CAGR and XIRR?
CAGR assumes one initial investment. A SIP has many cash flows, so this calculator uses a periodic annualized return based on the monthly contribution schedule rather than pretending all contributions happened on day one.
How is inflation adjustment calculated?
The projected ending value is divided by (1 + the assumed annual inflation rate) raised to the investment period. This expresses the ending amount in approximate today's purchasing power.
Can I share a comparison?
Yes. The calculator stores the scenario inputs in the page URL. Use Copy link to create a shareable URL that can be sent through WhatsApp or another app.
Does Generate income recommend SWP or FD?
No. It shows how the entered withdrawal assumptions compare with an FD-style interest-income scenario. It does not determine suitability or recommend a product.
