Calculation methodology
The estimate compounds the principal using the annual rate and compounding frequency you enter. It is a generic mathematical FD estimate; actual bank FDs can use institution-specific rates, day-count rules, payout options, premature-closure rules and tax treatment.
Important assumptions
- Results are estimates based on the values you enter.
- Rates and returns are assumed for the projection period and may change in real life.
- Taxes, fees, market conditions and provider-specific rules may affect actual outcomes.
FD Calculator Guide
What Is a Fixed Deposit Calculator?
A fixed deposit (FD) calculator estimates the interest earned and maturity value of a one-time deposit over a chosen tenure. Enter the deposit amount, annual interest rate, tenure and compounding frequency to see an illustrative result.
The estimate depends on the rate and compounding method entered. It is not a bank quote, and the actual maturity amount may differ because of product terms, payout options, penalties, taxes or rate changes before booking.
How Is FD Interest Calculated?
For a compound-interest deposit, the maturity estimate is based on the principal, annual rate, compounding frequency and tenure. More frequent compounding can produce a different result from annual compounding, so select the frequency that matches the deposit terms.
For a common compound-growth model, the formula is A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t), where P is principal, r is the annual rate as a decimal, n is the number of compounding periods per year and t is tenure in years. Actual banks may use product-specific day-count and compounding conventions.
FD Maturity Example
For illustration, a deposit of 100,000 currency units at 7% annual interest for 3 years, compounded annually, grows to about 122,504 before tax or fees. The estimated interest is about 22,504.
This is a mathematical example, not a current offer or guaranteed outcome. Change the principal, rate, tenure and compounding frequency above to model the terms you have been offered.
Cumulative FD vs Interest Payout
A cumulative deposit typically reinvests interest until maturity, so the final amount includes principal and accumulated interest. A periodic-payout deposit pays interest out at agreed intervals; its cash-flow pattern and final maturity amount can differ.
Use the compounding and payout assumptions that match the bank's product. This calculator's projection should not be treated as a payout schedule unless the selected method explicitly models one.
FD vs Recurring Deposit
A fixed deposit usually starts with a one-time principal, while a recurring deposit builds savings through regular contributions. Since the amount and timing of money entering the account differ, compare both products using the same savings goal and time horizon.
Use the RD Calculator to estimate a recurring-deposit scenario, or the Investment Comparison Calculator to compare supported plans. Check each product's rates, eligibility, liquidity and terms before choosing.
What to Check Before Opening an FD
Confirm the quoted annual rate, tenure, compounding or payout frequency, premature-closure rules, minimum deposit, renewal instructions and any applicable tax treatment. Special rates or conditions may apply by provider, customer category or deposit size.
Rates and tax rules can change and vary by jurisdiction. Verify the current terms with the financial institution and consult an appropriate tax source for your circumstances.

How is FD interest compounded?
The result depends on the annual rate, tenure and compounding frequency. Choose the frequency stated in your deposit terms; banks may use product-specific calculation conventions.
Is FD interest taxable?
Tax treatment depends on your country, account type and personal circumstances. This calculator estimates interest or maturity and does not calculate your tax liability.
Is a fixed deposit better than a recurring deposit?
They suit different cash-flow patterns: an FD typically starts with a lump sum, while an RD uses regular contributions. Compare amounts, tenure, rates, liquidity and product conditions.
What is the difference between FD interest and maturity value?
Interest is the estimated amount earned on the deposit. Maturity value is the principal plus accumulated interest for a cumulative deposit, before any applicable tax or deductions.
Can I withdraw an FD before maturity?
Premature withdrawal depends on the provider and deposit terms. A penalty or reduced interest rate may apply, and this calculator may not model those adjustments.
Does this estimate guarantee the bank's maturity amount?
No. It is an estimate based on the assumptions entered. Verify the quoted rate, compounding method, payout option, taxes and early-closure conditions with the provider.
